CCNuclear delivers a full suite of integrated technical, engineering, management, and consulting solutions for the nuclear industry. Our clients benefit from our deep expertise in nuclear waste management, project management, and technical planning. With every project, we apply the lessons learned from safely and successfully executing numerous nuclear projects, ensuring optimal outcomes for our clients.
Processing, Transfer and Disposal of Intermediate Level Waste from Power Plant Auxiliary Pools
This project consists of developing the methodology and tooling required to handle, segment package and transfer all miscellaneous high-level waste from the storage bays to interim dry storage structures, including modification of the existing unused waste storage facility concrete structures to receive this new waste volume. During the course of the project initiation, a need to develop efficient segmentation tools arose from the client which led to new technology development.
Turnkey Retrieval and Packaging of Spent IX Resins Gentilly-2
This turnkey project consists of providing systems and all services including operation staff related to performing recovery and packaging of the spent resin waste from two underground horizontal cylindrical storage tanks, through a restrictive 10” access pipe, into 5 m³ High Integrity Containers (HIC) within appropriate certified transportation shielded casks, for processing and dry storage.
Fabrication of Spent Fuel Shielded Interface Modules
This project consists of the fabrication of key shielded interface components for the loading and unloading of CANDU spent fuel baskets for relocation to centralized interim storage facility.
Turbine and Auxiliary Systems Sampling Characterization
This project consists of retrieving multiple physical samples from the turbine and auxiliary systems and analyzing them for contamination in order to plan for this system’s decommissioning.
Turnkey Retrieval and Packaging of Spent IX Resin Gentilly-1 and Douglas Point
This turnkey project consists of providing services and operation staff related to sampling and characterization, recovery, packaging into drums, and shipment of the Moderator Purification System (MPS) resin waste stored in an underground horizontal cylindrical storage tank, and Heat Transport Purification System (HTPS) resin waste stored in four underground rectangular concrete storage vaults, as well as associated mixed water, sand, and gravel waste for interim storage.
Processing, Transfer and Disposal of Low and Intermediate Level Waste from Power Plant Auxiliary Pools
This project consists of developing the methodology and tooling required to transfer all miscellaneous low and intermediate-level waste from the storage bays to interim dry storage structures. Most of the waste consisted of filters used to recuperate debris within the pool.
Study and Options Assessment of Low- Intermediate- and High Level- Waste Disposal
This project consists of a preliminary assessment on the inventory, handling and disposal of all low-, intermediate-, and high-level wastes stored in the four auxiliary pools, after the power plant’s definitive shutdown. The objective is to optimize the waste streams and maximize the use of existing shielded handling equipment and storage structures.
Moderator D20 – Intermediate Storage Option Assessment
This project consists of assessing multiple options for 40 years storage of the highly tritiated moderator heavy water or to dispose of it off-site immediately.
Corrective Work and Technical Support
Expertise and technical support for the corrective work to be performed on the reactor building ring beam. This project consists of performing an assessment of the current condition of the ring beam of the reactor building and implement urgent corrective work to secure the structure before the winter.
Spent IX Resin Extraction, Dewatering and Dry Storage
This project consists of developing the system and of removing wet radioactive spent resins from two underground full 170 m³ capacity rectangular concrete reservoirs by slurrying the resins into 3 m³ containers within a shielded flask and subsequently dewatering them for dry storage on the on-site solid radioactive waste facility.
Spent Fuel Storage Structures (CANSTOR) Investigation
CANSTOR is a spent fuel reinforced concrete storage structure in which seven years cooled spent fuel baskets are stored dry for a period of 50 years. This project consists of investigating the existing structures in which water has repeatedly been detected during sampling campaigns and providing solutions and recommendations.
Third Party Expert Review of Reactor Components Inventory
This project consists of providing a third-party expert review and a detailed calculation of the core components inventory in preparation for the decommissioning plan.
Refurbishment of the Spent Fuel Pool
After the shutdown and reactor refuelling, a life extension project was initiated on spent fuel pool walls for maintaining water tightness. The project consists of determining, testing and qualifying a radiation-resistant membrane, followed by installing the flexible waterproof qualified protective liner on the existing deteriorating pool walls in a highly radioactive environment where spent fuel was kept in the pool, using mechanical metal fixtures to form panelling sections.
